Byland is a specially commissioned project for Natural Scotland on Screen as a legacy production for the Year of Natural Scotland film collection. The original poem is written by Scottish writer Sophie Cooke, inspired by film from the Scottish Screen Archive.

Keynote speaker Professor Aubrey Manning is Emeritus Professor of Natural History at University of Edinburgh. He is widely recognised as one of the country’s leading authorities on natural history and animal behaviour. He is no stranger to broadcasting either. He presented the BBC series 'Talking Landscapes', 'Landscape Mysteries', and in 1998, he presented one of the BBC’s most ambitious documentary series ‘Earth Story’.
