    Hunting Season By Nevada Barr

Despite the existence of an elderly female character who defecates in a graveyard, I am only able to give this one star It was headed for a blazing two stars until I found an unforgivable punctuation error it s for its This is the first time I have ever seen an error this egregious in a printed book It was a low blow.A large issue I had with this tenth Anna Pigeon novel is that it is nearly identical to the eighth book in the series They both share a setting, the Natchez Trace in Mississippi Man [...]

RATING 3.75Anna Pigeon is a park ranger who has had many adventures at several of the national parks around the United States In this, the tenth book in the series, she does something different by seemingly settling in at a location where she s been before In the past few months, she s become the district ranger for the Natchez Trace area in Mississippi Although career wise this is a promotion, personally it s a trial as Anna is not skilled at managing people She has 2 rangers on her team Barth [...]

Another excellent Anna Pigeon mystery It was actually a happy coincidence that I read this right after Inhuman Bondaage since the issues of slavery and racism figure prominently in this story set in Mississippi with a mystery involving an old plantation and a recently discovered slave graveyard What works so well about all of these is that for Anna, because she s a park ranger and not a detective, the murder is many times secondary to her regular life, so we get to know her deeply as a characte [...]

Anna Pigeon is losing IQ as she gets older because she was pretty slow on the uptake here even though the clues were right in front of her face Also she s very naive and trusting for her age of people who have already shown themselves to be untrustworthy and betrayed her in the past to just follow them with blind and absolute trust because they say they are sorry but their actions show they are not This book was also longer then it needed to be and there were multiple mysteries going on which go [...]

Hunting Season book 10 in the series Anna Pigeon is a great outdoors read A mystery that puts poachers, cover ups, and a murder against a well seasoned Forrest Ranger that will stop at nothing to find the answered And if that wasn t enough she has to sort out her feelings for a very sexy handsome Sheriff Pastor that s she s falling in love with, and find out who is giving bad reports to the head office about her Grab a copy and enjoy

Ten pages about dog finding a grave in the yard, Anna and others inspecting it and after finding it empty talking about what it could have been in it I left the book after that because I was already bored and hoping it would be something new about the murder Too little information about actual case half of the book and and we have nothing there , too many of Anna s reflexive thoughts about people she works with, her personal life and park s beauty Anna s personal life so boring Too many characht [...]

It s been a fair few years since I read a Nevada Barr novel at one point I was greedily eating up her novels month by month and I still maintain that the character of Ranger Anna Pigeon and the setting of USA National Parks, are unique and compelling It s just that this one didn t strike a chord as the others have Perhaps it s because this is the second book set in The Natchez Parkway NP, a park I have no familiarity with and where the focus is less on the natural scenery or the fauna, than the [...]

I picked this up the other day and couldn t remember if I had read it or not.I had. But, even so, I enjoyed listening to it on a car trip.I d forgotten all about this book What was about, who the killer was, etc So it was almost like a new book. But the one think you couldn t forget was the beginning.Anna Pigeon is back in the Natchez Trace again another one there was Deep South I couldn t get the link to work Point Lomax is one of the few remaining buildings or stands The park service interpreter [...]

Anna Pidgeon, park services ranger in Mississippi, is called away from a wedding to uncover the murder of a large naked man in a local historic plantation It takes geneological research and coping with local flavor as well as racism to uncover the murderer A satisfying conclusion, if a little hastily explained with lots of red herrings tied up neatly at the end A cute little mystery, a good female sleuth, and great local detail made for a fine read.

Edge of your seat action as usual by Nevada Barr This is only the second Anna Pigeon novel that I ve listened to all the print versions are always out at our library so I listen in the car , and it was just as good as whatever the name of the one set in Rocky Mountain National Park is I m wondering, though, if there s something of a pattern as far as who the bad guy is, as so far there are some similarities between the two that I ve noticed.

Oh, Anna How do you get yourself in these situations I worry about you so Pulled from the story to partake in Real Life I periodically sigh, wondering out loud how you ll make it out of this adventure, asking my family if they think you ll be OK.

This is the second Anna Pigeon I ve read or listened to In both cases the local history and the description of the park where Anna was stationed was as interesting as the mystery to be solved I ve been to Alabama but not Mississippi but I would certainly like to visit the Natchez Trace.

I actually figured out the who and how of the murder about three quarters of the way through Intriguing mystery with just enough of Anna Pigeon s non working life woven throughout.

What a joy to read Nevada Barr after a few months of lesser authors No doubt she is one of my favorites

Having binge read the first ten Anna Pigeon books over the summer and now into the fall, I am questioning this as an example of good reading behavior At the beginning of 10, I wasn t drawn into the story and couldn t tell if it was the plot or just an oversaturation with the series By the end of the book, thoroughly enjoyed yet another adventure with the intrepid ranger But, feel I would best enjoy the rest of the series 11 19 if I took a break until next summer since these are great summer read [...]

This is the first book I have read by this writer and although it is the tenth book in the Anna Pigeon series I did not feel that I was missing out on vital information Ms Barr presented a good mystery and although there were references to past events, not having read the nine previous books did not in any way affect my enjoyment or understanding of what was happening in this novel I liked the main character, she has her flaws and issues that she is working through but she is tough and has no pr [...]

This is the 10th Anna Pigeon book I ve read It was not the best and had a few discrepancies not only from previous books in the series, but within a few pages of this one For example, Taco, Anna s loyal, life saving dog, turned from a lab into a golden retriever That one is hard to miss So my guess is that in the rush to get a book out each year, the editors take some short cuts I am interested, however, in the Natchez Trace and would like to take that historic road on a road trip On to Anna Pig [...]

I got frustrated and angry when the first victim was described as a walrus and that she had to overlook his mounds of flesh as she described a man of at least 200 pounds I am fat I would not describe a 200 pound person in the manner that Ms Barr did Yes, I understand wanting to say how repugnant one might feel looking at someone fat But fat is relative and she dwelled on it making me angry and unwilling to finish the book.

This is my second Nevada Barr book, and I thought it was similar to the first Blood Lure in that it was an easy read and suspenseful I did not find the Natchez Trace as interesting as Glacier National Park, but the story kept my interest Not great literature, but a fun read as a break from heavier literature I will definitely read of her books, particularly those set in National Parks that I have visited or plan to visit.

Anna is one of those unusual protagonists For a start, she s a middle aged woman who is not a martial artist, not a sleuth and has no special powers She s not even a proficient manager though she s learning What she is is a proficient park ranger. All these books can stand alone, though you gain respect for Anna and understanding of her baggage if you can read them vaguely sequentially.

Hunting Season was my first book by Nevada Barr and I was entertained throughout The author has a snappy wit and rich description The main character, Anna Pigeoon, is well developed and relatable, and all the secondary support characters were beautifully orchestrated I look forward to reading in the series.

Ranger Anna Pigeon is back on the Trace in Mississippi, and someone has left a large nearly naked dead man in a historical bedroom Politics, racism, and hints of sex games intermingle with violent misogyny and cover up.Enjoyed it a lot, curious how things will pan out between her and the sheriff down the line.

I can t quite put my finger on it but I didn t get into this book as much as I usually do with the Anna Pigeon series I think it might have something to do with being the second book set in the Natchez Trailway too much road and not enough wilderness for me, I think But still an overall enjoyable mystery.

This book brought back the Anna Pigeon of the past, the reason I was reading the series at the beginning I really enjoyed following the storyline and getting reacquainted with the character and the follow through from the previous book in the series.

This was my first mystery by Nevada Barr and it won t be my last I really enjoy her writing style and sense of humor A fast paced mystery keeps the story flowing smoothly I m looking forward to of Anna Pigeon s adventures

    Sherri Robinson
Loved that Nevada Barr returned to the Natchez Trace and continued the story with Paul Davidson, her co workers, and a new pace in the park Lots of twists.

This wasnt a terrible book I was very disappointed when the author couldn t remember the correct name of a character from the previous book Blood Lure when referencing her.

    Poco Wilder
A nicely told story in her home park Many of Anna s qualities shine through, making the journey itself delightful d funny, but not necessarily the plot.

    Good story
