3.5 starsSame easy writing style as Parker has used for his Spenser novels My first one about P.I Sunny Randall I like her spunk and the feminine way she thinks Her tenacity and problem solving skills are impressive, not to mention her wit and sense of humor yeah, kinda like a feminine version of Spenser Blond, fit and gorgeous She works at it too Sunny is a smart gal and has been around the block a time or two The daughter of a cop, and a former cop herself admittedly for a little while anyway [...]

If an Author makes you keep on reading beyond your bed time, leaves you with a good feeling and whets your appetite for , what else must you say except that it s a five star The feisty Sunny is back handling two emotional issues of those close to her as well as solving a complicated murder case Only a writer with the sublime style of Parker can make it into an effortless read wanting you craving for .

The second book in Parker s Sunny Randall series is short on action, but does a great job of subtly developing the still new then characters Most of the main characters are female, and Parker still had work to do on speaking from that perspective, but Randall and company are very interesting characters.

4 1 2 love having a central female character enjoy the shrink talk good guys bad guys bad good guys good bad guys family is family diminishing of self for females in marriage wife mother a boring existence hard to tell where the fiction starts .

    Daniel Humm
Finished wondering if the ending was meant as a cliffhanger for a future sequel Too many loose ends Apparent murderers all seem free Seemed Sunny might have felt a greater threat of violence from protesters outside an abortion clinic than inside an organized crime HQ.

MehI ve read all of the Spencer books and thought I start on the Sunny Randal series Spencer is my favorite literary character so I was hopeful First book was decent, this one lost traction quickly Weak story, almost the first half of a book rather than a whole novel.

Unfortunately the first sentence didn t grab me at all, and the subsequent two pages did nothing to cement my interest.

Can t help but read Spencers voice on every page.

This is the second Sunny Randall story In a few instances it contradicted or forgot events in book 1.

    Karla Oates
    Good airplane book.

Enjoyed reading this but found the ending slightly underwhelming.

Written with Parker s usual style, this Sunny Randall mystery moves along smoothly and fairly quickly, with the occasional humorous twist However, much as I like the Spenser novels and the Jesse Stone novels, there is something lacking in the Sunny Randall novels They just don t have the compelling I got to read it tone This was OK She meets with Tony Marcus to help solve the mystery of the two murders, but Tony Marcus is dealing with a woman, and he , as he puts it, Likes Sunny So the tension o [...]

the writing is good and funny, the protagonist is believable and likable, and a good story line.

Library ebookSunny Randall comes to the aid of three very different women, an ardent feminist who has a liking for the occasional male encounter thus cheating on her girlfriend, Matalie Goddard Married name Marcus and sister of pimp Jermaine Jermaine knew his sister amrried Marcus so basically had a hold on him He takes a dislike on his own account to Sunny and chases her to shoot her Sunny takes him down and he ends up in prison where Marcus has him killed. So story starts with Sunny hired by pr [...]

PERISH TWICE is the second book in the short but very sweet set of Sunny Randall Crime novels The adorable Rosie is still the star of the show, but this time around, family problems in the form of a bored sister trying to find herself provide distraction for the reader as well as Sunny herself And a close, dear friend of Sunny is dealing with her emotions, too, which is making life interesting for everyone concerned The complaint of stalking by a potential new employer of Sunny s is apparently d [...]

We ll admit to a reading crush on Parker s Sunny Randall character, having polished off all six and, sadly, the only six of her novels in the past six months We greatly admired her skills and resourcefulness and despite her relationship issues with ex hubby Richie they re really still in love, she otherwise had her life together, often helping other women to a state of steady independence.Perhaps Perish , the second of the six book set, was not our favorite on which to end, as it followed three [...]

PLOT OR PREMISE Sunny Randall is back, and she has a new part time job as advisor to the love lorn Her first customer is Mary Lou Goddard, a prominent feminist la Rachel Wallace, from the Spenser series who thinks she s being stalked When Sunny figures out who the stalker is, Goddard wants to drop it all and fires her Doesn t stop her from continuing to investigate, even though she has no client The second customer is her sister who hires her to catch the sister s husband in the process of cheat [...]

I really enjoyed my first read of Robert Parker It s a quick and fast paced read, enjoyable all the way through in large part for its prose The short, descriptive sentences and quick dialogue is reminiscent of hardboiled but it doesn t have that pessimistic worldview it usually is associated with I would call it softboiled but that sounds like an insult Lightboiled, maybe Anyway, just like the best hardboiled, it makes your eyes race effortlessly across the page.Sunny Randall isn t randomly name [...]

I had it but the Library wanted it back before I finished Desole It s back on hold, so stand by.Enter Sunny, persistent little person, is investigating a murder that has been closed by the police Sunny s not convinced they re right so she continues on and becomes embroiled in the lives of prostitutes and some pretty bad hombres Luckily Sunny knows some bad hombres of her own who are devoted to keeping her safe Interesting dynamics. In the midst of this investigation her sister show up, furious ab [...]

2 in the Sunny Randall series Boston P.I Randall inhabits the same fictional universe as does author Parker s male P.I Spenser.Sunny Randall series The novel revolves around assorted couples dysfunctional liaisons In one significant subplot, Sunny s obnoxious and spoiled sister, Elizabeth, hires Sunny to trail her husband, whom she suspects of having an affair when Sunny catches the lothario, Elizabeth leaves him and begins to sleep around In another, Sunny s old therapist pal, Julie, is having [...]

This is the sixth Sunny Randall book I ve read, so now I ve completedall the Spenser 36 , Jesse Stone 8 , and Sunny Randall books 6 byRobert B Parker These are his books in a series, which arewonderful because of the character development Never have I enjoyednovels so much In this book Sunny comes to the aid of three women indangerous situations a friend, her sister, and one for business.Favorite quotations There was, in fact, nothing in the house thatsuggested a life lived with exhilaration Not [...]

Very similar to Robert Parker s other novels Fun and engaging, but pretty flat and forgettable Each book reads like an episode of a serialized TV show, which isn t a bad thing, they just don t really stand out Towards the end of the book I had the distinct impression that I had read this book before I know I haven t, so it was just a sense of deja vu brought on by the familiar situations common in these books Overall, I liked the book The story and characters were interesting My only real compla [...]

Robert B Parker develops the character of another of his protagonists in this second installment of the Sunny Randall series As her sister and her best friend struggle with their own troubled relationships, Sunny Randall is afforded the opportunity to contemplate the status of her own relationship with her ex husband She vicariously and directly confronts issues of dependence, autonomy, and interdependence while investigating the tangled web of events surrounding a prominent feminist s endangere [...]

Robert B Parker doesn t disappoint I started reading Sunny Randall basically because her story intersects with the Jesse Stone series my favorite of Parker character This is my second solo Sonny story and I am really enjoying it I think her ex husband connection to organized crime really adds an interesting level to the story I also really enjoy the character of Tony He s clearly evil and hard core, but tends to give Sonny a pass because he likes her Very unique My one complaint is the failure o [...]

Robert Parker s books are the perfect beach books and I read this one literally on the beach entertaining, easy to read, easy enough to put down if you want to go swimming He s a hard author to criticize, since the books provide exactly what I want for a beach book, but there s pretty much nothing in this book to distinguish a new protagonist, Sunny Randall, from the old standard, Spencer Nor does the voice of whatever black character who s a tough guy sound any different from the voice of the o [...]

Good second entry in the Sunny Randall series from Parker In this one Sunny is trying to solve the case of a murder that has been closed by the police, but Sunny is persistent like a bull dog She also plays relationship counselor to her sister and friend, Julie, when their marriages seem to be falling apart The murder she is working on involves a lesbian feminist couple, prostitutes, and gang members and she ends up getting help from her ex s gangland family to finally solve the case Overall, I [...]

Usually a Robert Parker book strikes a good balance between main plot the mystery and a personal growth sub plot that shows characters growing from book to book Unfortunately, this book was out of balance and leaned toward the personal growth sub plot To make matters worse, the sub plot was less about Sunny Randall s growth and about her sister and best friend, both who are having relationship problems. The mystery itself was interesting, but seemed to fizzle as opposed to having a climax. It is [...]

There is the pretty private detective who goes by the name of Sunny Randal She is hired by a lesbian feminist where her job is to protect her from a stalker all the while she is dealing with her stuck up sister and her best friends problems, realizing after a while the her actions are followed by deadly consequences.I really enjoyed this book because I never realized all the troubles a private detective has until reading this book I really liked the main character because she deals with a lot of [...]

This is a messy story Not because of the writing style, but because of the events a murder which may be a case of mistaken identity, two separate divorces her friend Julie and her sister Elizabeth , and Sunny s own ambivalence about her relationship with her ex husband, Richie. Each thread weaves it s way through the other, confusing the whole picture for Sunny, while she doggedly tries to follow each thread to the end This book focuses deeply on relationships and individual choice and self wort [...]

I really enjoy Parker s writing, and his characters, and Rosie I own 2 standard Bull Terriers, but my female is small, and I visualize her when he writes of Rosie I see from the jacket photo he does know the breed, so no wonder his descriptions are so spot on.Was a quick readI finished it in a half day I d give it 5 stars because I enjoy Sunny and Rosie so much, but I m pretty sure I m biased Just because it made me smile doesn t mean it s great literature I recommend this series especially for [...]
