Doomsday (2008)

Dir. Neil Marshall / UK / Action, Science Fiction / Colour / 108m

Scotland becomes a dumping ground for crazies, murderers and cannibals is this dystopian future Britain where the world is battling a deadly virus.

27 years after the Reaper virus wiped out millions, the disease erupts again in London and threatens to destroy the entire population. Hope lies with an elite fighting unit led by Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra) who must venture into quarantined Scotland to find a cure. But this devastated post-apocalyptic zone is controlled by murderous gangs with a taste for human flesh.

Many of the villains in this piece are Scottish and the ruins of Glasgow and the northern Highlands are seen as little more than a place to seal off humanity’s dregs.

A few big set pieces take place in iconic Scottish locations, with a particularly impressive battle raging at Blackness Castle.
