Merida, a Scottish princess whose interests include archery and horse riding, is told by her mother that her passionsare not what a princess should be doing and that she has to marry. But Merida chooses to defy her mother. And when she and her mother have an argument Merida rides off and meets a witch. She asks for a spell to change her mother. The witch gives her a cake which does indeed change the Queen but not in a way that she was hoping for. Unintended peril is unleashed, forcing Merida to spring into action to set things right - a task that brings her face to face with a fearsome wild bear.
This is Scotland imagined in all its medieval grit, though punctuated throughout with Pixar's humour and emotional heart.
